SEBI Extends SWP/STP Standing Instruction Facility to Demat Mutual Fund Units

SEBI Extends SWP/STP Standing Instruction Facility to Demat Mutual Fund Units

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has issued a significant regulatory update extending the standing instruction facility for Systematic Withdrawal Plans (SWP) and Systematic Transfer Plans (STP) to mutual fund units held in demat form. Previously available only for Statement of Account (SoA) holdings, this facility will now be implemented in two phases—beginning with unit-based instructions followed by amount-based instructions. Depositories have been designated as the nodal agencies for implementation, with a standard operational framework to be published by October 31, 2026, followed by phased rollouts through January and April 2027. The initiative enhances investor convenience, brings parity between demat and SoA investors, reduces manual intervention, and strengthens the efficiency of India’s mutual fund ecosystem.
